With small bit of work this bike would make a great rider but is definitely worth a full restoration. This rocket has the original stem and handlebar but is missing some chrome and also the stem bolt. The original Messinger Deluxe springer leather seat needs to be restored- the cover has torn off and needs to be restitched. Pedals are rideable but should be replaced. Crankset with Monark chain ring and dogleg drive side arm are in good shape- scratched.
#MONARK BICYCLE CRACKED#
The Alstate Safety tires are cracked and don't hold air. The front fender light is in rough shape: broken lens. The original spring fork works but is missing one of the original top nuts. The rims are painted cream with a red pinstripe. The rims are in nice condition with decent paint. Front and rear laced to drop center rims. There is quite a bit of rust on the rear rack(which isn't stock) The original aluminum head badge is in great shape. more chromed) This bicycle also has the original paint- a black and cream that even has some of the original red pin-striping still visible in spots. This Rocket has a cheaper spec than the 26x though- basic front hub, no front brake, standard steel Gothic fenders(not stainless or. These steel twinbars are extremely rare, even more rare than the 26x which it greatly resembles. And like most of the twinbars, it has been re-welded where the drive-side chainstay meets the bottom bracket and also on the top tube 3 inches back from the head tube. The springs and bar are painted and they replaced the vinyl and it is much more comfortable now! While this is not a perfect"10". A local shop recovered and touched up the seat which was in really rough shape. Must have worn one out and only replaced one many moons ago. For some reason there are two different grips on it. There was no battery holder in the tank when so they updated it a bit without making permenant modifications. One of our crew replaced the switch and it is now run on a four AA battery pack that is attached via velcro in the tank. The bulbs are burned out but the light does work.
The peddles work and are in ok shape we did not replace them since they are original.
